Adding Jedi as a playable class changed the vibe/community and made it that everyone (specifically new players) does nothing else but being Jedi SW:G was all about your profession, having your own shops, homes and decoration, community-run events, cosmetic stuff, economy, and so on, very player-driven sandbox. So designers against what they wanted, had to go and make Jedi as a simple choosable class. I used to play Star Wars: Galaxies, and it was a player-driven game like EVE Online/Ultima Online, and basically the game had Jedis, you could become a Jedi, but it was not easy to do that, there was a lot of hidden stuff and things you needed to do and get, and it was only ever intended that a very small minority can ever become a Jedi, for balancing and lore reasons.īut then corporate reasons wanted it so that everyone can be Jedi for the fantasy and because it would sell more copies.
